As a part of GHF's involvement in the Galveston County Health District's Lead Paint Task Force and as a component of our National Trust Partners in the Field grant, the Preservation and Conservation Services Department has renewed its efforts to reduce lead-based paint hazards in area buildings. Historic property owners' and preservationists have been concerned with lead based paint since it was found to be dangerous. It is a well known fact that elevate blood-lead levels are a contributing factor in learning disabilities and lowered brain function, along with multiple other health ailments, but it has been recently been proven to also increase possible criminal/deviant behavior.
