Gateway to the New World


For hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world, their first step onto American soil was at the immigration station on Pelican Island. From the port of Galveston, these pioneers helped tame not just Texas, but much of the Midwest. Their craftsmanship, customs and names can still be seen today in all parts of the region.
